Natural gas hits highest price since 2008

(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - Many Americans may see a hike in their gas bill as natural gas prices rose nearly 10% Tuesday, which hit a peak not seen since 2008.

Most U.S. households use natural gas to keep out the winter chill and it is also the top fuel source for the U.S. electric grid.

Analysts say an increase in energy prices could hinder the U.S. economy, boost the cost of living and escalate inflation fears.

And it's not just an issue for the U.S.

Natural gas prices in Europe have also rose to all-time records.
