Walmart gets a boost from shoppers using stimulus checks

(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - Walmart says stimulus checks fueled growth in its sales during the most recent quarter with sales up 6% for the quarter that ended on April 30th.

Walmart saw growth for products in categories including apparel, outdoor living, sporting goods and beauty supplies.

The growth rate includes a very strong 37% increase in online sales. Retail sales for the nation were up 27% for the last quarter over the same period in 2020.

Analysts are watching closely to see if that continues without additional stimulus money pumped into the economy.
