Amazon rolling out palm scanners for payment at stores
(KYMA, KECY/CNN) - There may be a new way to cash-out at store registers in the near future, as Amazon is experimenting with payments made by waving your hand.
First came the credit card swipe, then the tap, and now just a wave of the hand can potentially process a payment at your local store.
Amazon is rolling out palm scanners at one of its Whole Foods stores in Seattle. The technology called "Amazon One" allows shoppers to pay for purchasing by holding their hands above the scanner.
Before you can use it, you have to give the company your credit card information and a palm print.
Amazon has been using the system for some time at its Amazon Go and Amazon Go grocery stores in Seattle--the technology capital of the country. The company plans to bring it to eight Seattle area Whole Foods stores in the coming months.
Critics say it's a way for the retailer to cut jobs, but Amazon claims the palm scanners won't have any impact on employment.
