AEA Federal Credit Union is the latest business to plant roots in Arizona's "Booming Town"

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - For some time now, the City of San Luis has been one of the Desert Southwest's hidden gems. Its uniqueness at times got lost in the headlines and people just didn't look any further.

But the secrets out and the city that was slowly growing has exploded in just a few years. If you haven't been to this incredible border town in some time, I doubt you'd recognize it.

The city is growing from all sides, with developments on both the west and east end. The city is amidst building a new sporting complex with buildings specifically built for first responders and law enforcement.

On the north end, construction of new businesses like Burger King, Starbucks, and a Clean Freaks Car Wash has already begun. And, one of the region's largest financial institutions has just broken ground.

AEA Federal Credit Union is no stranger to forecasting progress having set up shop in the beginning stages of both East County and in the City of Somerton.

On March 23, AEA FCU staff and boardmembers gathered on the east end of a strip mall in the city's Main Street. The groundbreaking was three years in the making.

Local dignitaries like the Mayor of San Luis, the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, and a representative from Representative Raul Grijalva's office were all on hand.

The new branch will be a new concept model for the institution featuring three exterior ATMs, in-person tellers, and a community room that will be accessible to the public.

Construction is set to be completed in 2023.
