YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The new year, maybe the spark you needed to take the initiative to improve your life. And, with that comes making more money.

Lea Soto-Graham with the Goodwill Career Center of Yuma says before you decide to see if the grass is greener on the other side, maybe look to see what your present company has to offer.

Soto-Graham says to research your own company to see if there's any possibility for advancement, the time you've already invested could prove to be beneficial.

Next, set up a meeting with your manager to discuss your future. Make sure to plan ahead of time to make sure your intentions are clear.

Soto-Graham says that before taking the leap of talking to a manager, make sure that you're the very best at your present job.

Another thing you can do is acquire a mentor, this is someone that can guide you.
