Federal agents raid Minnesota congresswoman’s D.C. home

WASHINGTON (NBC, KYMA) - Federal agents searched Rep. Ilhan Omar's (D-Minn.) home in Washington, D.C. Monday morning.

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that conducts criminal probes, "executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice (DOJ)," according to a statement by a DOJ spokesperson.

The spokesperson added, "This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation."

The statement did not specify if the warrant was related to the Minnesota Democrat and did not provide any further information about the nature of the investigation.

According to one person familiar with the investigation, the case involves a criminal investigation with whistleblowers, documents and witness testimony.

HSI is leading the investigation in coordination with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Minneapolis, where Omar is from, and main DOJ.

Rep. Omar's spokesperson, Jackie Rogers, responded in a statement provided to NBC News saying in part, "This raid by Trump's DHS is an outrageous abuse of power and an unprecedented escalation in the weaponization of federal law enforcement to target political enemies."

Rogers added, "The congresswoman has done nothing wrong. No president should be able to use the power of the federal government to intimidate his political enemies."

Last month, border czar Tom Homan told Fox News Omar was being investigated by the DHS.

President Donald Trump has frequently lashed out at Omar, who is a member of a progressive group of women in Congress collectively known as "the Squad," criticizing her over her liberal positions.

Omar immigrated to the U.S. from Somalia as a child. She has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2019.
