Trump answers questions about relationship with Kim Jong Un at White House construction site

WASHINGTON (NBC, KYMA) - President Donald Trump inspected the construction of the new helipad being built at the White House Wednesday.

He showed off some challenge coins he said would be inserted into the new helipad.

President Trump also signed a stone to be used in the project and invited some members of the construction crew to do the same.

The president then took questions, including one about his relationship with North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un.

When asked if he was exchanging written letters with Kim Jong Un, Trump had this to say:

"I can't tell you that, but I get along with him and you know what? The fact that I get along with him that's a good thing, not a bad thing. He has 57 very powerful nuclear weapons. Should have never allowed it to happen, they should have never allowed him. If I were president, I wouldn't have allowed it. But he's got them. I get along with him very well. Can't let Iran have a nuclear weapon. And I know Kim Jong Un very well, and he's going to be fine. As long as we have a smart president, he's going to be fine. If we have a dumb president, then he's probably not going to be so fine."
