Iowa to begin enforcing Vape Registration Law

DAVENPORT, Iowa (NBC, KYMA) - A federal appeals court has cleared the way for Iowa to begin enforcing its Vape Registry Law.

It's a move supporters say will help reduce youth vaping, but vape shop owners say could dramatically impact their business.

"If nothing changes, we'll be out of business. We'll be closing all our Iowa locations, I'd assume 95% of vape shops, probably 99% will all close their doors if we can only sell six products," said Brandon Gaines, owner of Uptown Vapors.

This comes after a federal appeals court lifted the injunction blocking Iowa's Vape Registry Law.

The ruling allows the state to begin enforcing a law that limits which vape products can legally be sold in Iowa.

That means many of the disposable products currently lining the shelves could soon disappear.

Health officials say teen vaping remains a concern and hope limiting access to those products will make a difference.

Vape shop owners say they understand the need for regulations. They just believe this law goes too far.
