Sen. Darlene Graham to run for full term for seat left vacant by her late brother

(NBC, KYMA) - Sen. Darline Graham (R-S.C.) says she will run for a full term to replace the seat held by her late brother, Lindsey Graham

Speaking to Fox News' Sean Hannity, Sen. Graham said she will run in next month's special primary election to appear on the November ballot.

"I've been praying a lot, talking to my family. But with the love of my family, with the support of his staff, I know I'm a hard worker. I learned that from Lindsey. He cared about the people of this state. I've worked for almost 30 years for the people of this state. I feel like I can do it. I feel an inner peace about it. Will it be difficult? Yes, absolutely."

President Donald Trump had urged Graham to jump into the race and offered her his complete and total endorsement.

Other GOP candidates have announced plans to run in the August 11 election. The winner of the special election will go on to face Democrat Annie Andrews in November.

Graham was sworn into the Senate seat last week after being appointed by Gov. Henry McMaster (R-S.C.) to finish out her late brother's term, which ends in early January.

The elder Graham died July 11 at the age of 71 of what was preliminarily diagnosed as a rupture of his aorta due to a hardening of his arteries.
