D.C. Reflecting Pool drained again for repairs

WASHINGTON (NBC, KYMA) - The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C. has been drained once again as workers prepare to begin to the process of repairing the liner that was recently installed as part of a multi-million dollar renovation project.

Soon afterwards, algae appeared in the pool and portions of the liner appeared to be peeling.

President Donald Trump blamed the damage on vandals, saying, "Someone cut a 350-foot gash in the pool," a claim that was echoed by a National Park Service official.

Four people have since been arrested, accused of damaging the liner.

With the water now out of the pool, workers were able to examine what appeared to be loose sections of liner the middle of the pool.

Security fencing and several portable security cameras remain in the area of the Reflecting Pool.
