California lawmakers push for bipartisan national film tax credit legislation

GLENDALE, Calif. (KYMA, NBC) - California lawmakers are holding a press conference Tuesday morning to push for a bipartisan national film tax credit legislation.

According to a press release obtained by NBC News, the legislation, called the Motion Picture, Television, and Entertainment Revitalization Act, will cover "qualified labor expenses, putting Americans back to work on productions that have been leaving the country for decades."

"It stacks with state incentives and is designed to compete with the roughly 65 countries that already offer incentives the United States does not match," the press release said.

The lawmakers participating in the press conference include Sen. Adam Schiff (D) and Reps. Laura Friedman (D), Judy Chu (D), Pete Aguilar (D) and Ted Lieu (D).

Major film and television unions, such as SAG-AFTRA, the Writers Guild of America, and IATSE, are also participating in the press conference.
