House Ethics Committee investigates Rep. Jimmy Gomez over sexual misconduct allegations

(CNN, KYMA) - The House Ethics Committee is investigating Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-Calif.) for sexual misconduct, according to three sources familiar with the matter.

The probe stems from a report by the New York Post that alleged Rep. Gomez was seen kissing an aide outside a backyard party in 2023, but the aide worked for a different member of Congress.

A Gomez spokesperson earlier said the story was "not true."

One of the sources says the investigation has turned-up additional allegations of sexual misconduct.

Gomez admits he made "personal mistakes" outside his marriage that were consensual, but didn't specify exactly what he was referring to.

He says that's a family matter and not a violation of House ethics rules.
