Elijah Norton runs for Arizona State Treasurer

YUMA COUNTY, Ariz. (KYMA) - Republican Elijah Norton is running for Arizona State Treasurer, a job that oversees billions of dollars in state and local investments.

Norton said his experience running a global insurance organization has prepared him to manage money that belongs to others.

He added he wants to bring a similar approach to the state's investments, prioritizing accountability, and long-term financial stability.

Norton also wants to take a closer look at state spending, including auditing the budget and monitoring government transactions to help identify waste or fraud.

"And that's really the number one job of the treasurer. The treasurer's motto is safety over liquidity and liquidity over yield," Norton explained.

If elected, Norton said he would make sure the state's investments serve Arizonans.
