Warren Petersen outlines priorities in Arizona attorney general race

Arizona State Legislature

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Arizona Senate President Warren Petersen is running for attorney general, saying he wants to bring a different approach to the office.

The Republican candidate is challenging Attorney General Kris Mayes, who is the Democratic incumbent.

Petersen said his priorities would include fighting crime, defending state laws and addressing government waste and corruption.

"My priorities are going to be fight crime, defend the laws and root out fraud, waste and corruption," Petersen said.

Petersen criticized Mayes' handling of law enforcement and several state laws, including those involving school sports, border security and sex offenders.

He said he would make defending those laws a priority if elected.

Petersen has spent years in the Arizona Legislature, saying that experience would help guide his work as attorney general.
