Joong Kim runs for Calexico City Council

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA) - Increasing police and firefighter staffing is one of Joong Kim's priorities for Calexico.

Kim said he is running for one of the two seats on the City Council in November.

He acknowledged the city's financial problems, but said unity and working for residents must come first, rather than political showmanship.

Kim previously served on the Council and as mayor in 2015 and 2016.

"We might not have our pocket is going to change it. Not all of them. We're going to someone who's willing to work together, the city and the community together. We can have long and short term benefit. I believe everybody's going to be saved. I mean, happy with that," Kim shared.

He also said his priorities include addressing parking meter issues, which he said are hurting Calexico businesses and visitors.
