Meet Arizona House candidate Tiffany Byrne

Tiffany Byrne Campaign

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - After 30 years in education, Tiffany Byrne is running for the Arizona House of Representatives.

The Democrat is running for one of two seats in Legislative District 25, which includes parts of Yuma County.

Byrne said her time in the classroom helped shape her decision to run for office. She wants to focus on public school funding, teacher pay and support for students.

"We absolutely need to make sure that our teachers have a livable wage," Byrne said.

She also pointed to large class sizes and low counselor-to-student ratios as concerns.

Byrne also wants more oversight of Arizona's Empowerment Scholarship Account, or ESA, program. The program helps families pay for private education.

She supports giving families a choice in their children's education but says the state needs more accountability for how public money is spent through the program.

If elected, Byrne said she would also hold regular town halls to hear from the people she represents, including outside election season.

Early voting in Yuma County is underway.
