Former Vice President Harris stops in San Diego to support Democratic candidate

SAN DIEGO (KYMA) - Former Vice President Kamala Harris made a stop in San Diego over the weekend to support Democratic congressional candidate Marnie von Wilpert.

The former vice president was filling in as a surrogate for Democratic candidates across the United States, and Saturday's appearance marked the first stop in her home state.

Former Vice President Harris surprised the crowd of canvassers at the Democratic campaign headquarters in Escondido, taking the stage with Marni von Wilpert, a Democratic candidate running for Congress.

"Marni von Wilpert is an extraordinary person. She is in it for the right reasons. She has character, she has courage, so she knows how to fight on the right," Harris remarked.

Von Wilpert was honored to have the former vice president's support in her campaign, and those who attended the event were more than excited to see Harris in person.

"I'm honored that the former vice president is here. I mean the first woman vice president of the United States of America and a Californian at that. But it just shows how important this race is," von Wilpert expressed.

"She's such an inspiration to so many women and politics and women who want to get into politics, especially women of color," said one canvasser.
