Federal judge dismisses President Trump’s lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal

(NBC, KYMA) - A U.S. District Court judge has dismissed President Donald Trump's lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal.

President Trump filed the lawsuit in July of 2025 after the paper reported Trump sent a letter to Jeffrey Epstein in 2003 that included a drawing of a naked woman.

Judge Darrin Gayles ruled Monday that Trump's lawsuit "comes nowhere close" to the standard of actual malice.

The lawsuit sought at least $10 billion in damages and a jury trial.

In response to the dismissal, Trump posted to social media saying, "Our powerful case against The Wall Street Journal, and other defendants, was asked to be re-filed by the Judge. It is not a termination, it is a suggested re-filing, and we will be, as per the Order, re-filing an updated lawsuit on or before April 27th."
