Greg Bovino says he’s retired from Border Patrol

GRAPEVINE, Texas (NBC, KYMA) - Controversial former Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino received a hero's welcome at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), where he made an announcement.

Bovino walked on to the stage wearing a "Mad Max"-inspired T-shirt as the crowd cheered him on.

Despite his controversial tactics, Bovino is considered a hero in the conservative movement.

He was accused of making unsubstantiated claims about ICU nurse Alex Pretti, who was shot and killed by federal agents in the streets of Minneapolis.

After criticism and investigation into his remarks, the Trump Administration announced that Bovino would retire.

During the conference, Bovino told his supporters, "I did retire. I've actually been retired 24 hours now. I left my tribe, folks, but I've joined another tribe and that is you. That conservative CPAC movement America. Thanks for having me here today."
