President Trump holds press conference to discuss war in Iran

MIAMI (NBC, KYMA) - President Donald Trump held a press conference Monday to talk about the war in Iran.

Speaking at a press conference at Trump National Doral Miami, President Trump said the U.S.' military objectives are "pretty well complete," predicting the war could be over "very soon," but not this week.

"We're ahead of our initial timeline by a lot. I would say that we probably would not have thought after a month we'd be here, in addition to the fact that we've taken out the leadership twice and maybe three times, and we, as you know, we want to be involved," Trump shared.

He also discussed the war's impact on oil prices and Iran's restricting of ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

"I will not allow a terrorist regime to hold the world hostage and attempt to stop the globe's oil supply, and if Iran does anything to do that they'll get hit at a much, much harder level," Trump expressed. "In the long run, oil supplies will be dramatically more secure without the threat of Iranian ships, drones, missiles, nuclear menace or anything. So the Strait of Hormuz is going to remain safe."

During the press conference, he also talked about how disappointed he was about Iran's choice to replace Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the U.S. and Israeli strikes last weekend, with his son, Mojtaba Khamenei.

"You know, I was disappointed because we think it's going to lead to just more of the same problem for the country. So I was disappointed to see their choice," Trump explained.
