President Trump delivers State of the Union address
WASHINGTON (NBC, KYMA) - President Donald Trump is preparing to deliver his State of the Union address Tuesday night where he's expected to talk immigration, economy and tariffs.
Supreme Court justices, lawmakers from both parties and other important figures are set to be in attendance for the speech.
However, some Democrats have already signaled plans to boycott the event by attending a nearby rally.
While few details have been made confirmed for Tuesday night's State of the Union address, President Trump's latest public comments and his posts on Truth Social may suggest what the nation can expect, and there is one thing the president has made clear.
"It's going to be a long speech, because we have so much to talk about," Trump shared.
The latest polling shows most shows 60% of Americans disapprove of Trump's overall performance and more than half disapproving of key policies like the economy to international relations and immigration enforcement, according to a Washington Post/ABC News poll.
Changing minds is expected to be a key focus of Tuesday night's speech as the president makes his own case.
"We've transformed stagnation into growth, weakness into strength and chaos into order, liberty and justice. We have done that today. Our border is secure. Murders are at a 125 year low," Trump expressed.
Some Democrats, like Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.), have said they will not attend the State of the Union address in protest.
"It's important to show the American public that someone that has led the single most corrupt government in U.S. history, there has to be action against that," Rep Garcia explained.
There's no confirmation on who will be the president's guests for the evening, but NBC News does expect the Supreme Court justices to be front center following their 6 to 3 ruling limiting Trump's ability to level tariffs.
"The Supreme Court's ruling on tariffs is deeply disappointing, and I'm ashamed of certain members of the court," Trump remarked.
However, what the president's base, and most Americans will want to hear, is plans for the economy, lowering inflation and prices, something the president claims he's winning on.
"Then I have to listen to the fake news talking about affordability...I've won. I've won affordability," Trump declared.
At least a dozen Democrats plan to boycott the speech and attend rallies in D.C. instead.
Six Democrats, including Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), plan to bring survivors of Jeffrey Epstein's abuse as their guests.
The official Democratic response will be delivered by Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D-Va.), along with Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), who will give a response in Spanish.
