Democrats plan on boycotting President Trump’s State of the Union address

Shealah Craighead / White House

(CNN, KYMA) - A growing number of Democrats are planning to boycott President Donald Trump's State of the Union address next week, instead of demonstrating against the administration in the chamber like they did last year.

A number of lawmakers are planning to attend a rally on the National Mall called "The People's State of the Union."

The event will profile leaders and people affected by Republican policies, including federal workers who lost their jobs.

President Trump's address to a joint session of Congress is scheduled for Tuesday.
