Minnesota National Guard activated to help law enforcement in Minneapolis
MINNEAPOLIS (NBC, KYMA) - The Minnesota National Guard was activated in Minneapolis Saturday following the shooting of Alex Pretti at the hands of a Border Patrol agent.
The shooting has prompted widespread protests in the city.
Both Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office requested the National Guard to assist local law enforcement, and asked for troops to be sent to the shooting site and to the Whipple Federal Building.
The city said guard members will wear neon reflective vests to "distinguish them from other agencies in similar uniforms," and will remain in close proximity to local police.
The city emphasized that the federal government has no involvement in their activities.
