President Trump pushes to acquire Greenland
WASHINGTON (KYMA, CBS) - Greenland and Danish leaders are working through differences with the Trump Administration while President Donald Trump pushes to acquire Greenland.
President Trump held a meeting Wednesday with Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Denmark's Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said, "We want to work with our American friends and allies, but it must be respectful cooperation, and it must respect the red lines."
President Trump called the acquisition of Greenland a matter of national security as it's vital to the "Golden Dome" defense system he wants to build.
"If we don't go in, Russia is going to go in, and China is going to go in," said President Trump.
Other U.S. lawmakers are opposed to the acquisition.
"The idea that we have to own the country in order to protect our national security is just nonsense," said Maine Senator Angus King.
