Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz announces he will not seek reelection for third term

(NBC, KYMA) - Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) announced Monday that he will not seek reelection for a third term.

In a statement, Gov. Walz said, "Every minute I spend defending my own political interests would be a minute I can't spend defending the people of Minnesota against the criminals who prey on our generosity and the cynics who prey on our differences."

The decision also comes amid fraud investigation into several state programs.

Last September, Walz had said that he would be seeking another term in office, but has since changed his mind.

Walz is expected to hold a press conference Monday afternoon to discuss his decision. To watch the livestream of the press conference, see attached video.
