Man arrested and identified for breaking windows at Vice President JD Vance’s home in Cincinnati
UPDATE (10:15 AM): The man suspected of damaging windows at Vice President JD Vance's Cincinnati home has been identified.
Secret Service agents, in cooperation with the Cincinnati Police Department, arrested 26-year-old William DeFoor overnight.
He was taken into custody outside Vice President Vance's home after allegedly using a hammer to break several windows.
DeFoor is now facing four charges including vandalism, obstruction of official business, criminal damaging, and criminal trespassing, and is due to appear in court Tuesday.
According to officials, DeFoor has a documented history of mental health concerns.
Vance posted a statement to X saying in part, "I appreciate everyone's well wishes about the attack at our home. As far as I can tell, a crazy person tried to break in by hammering the windows. I'm grateful to the Secret Service and the Cincinnati police for responding quickly."
CINCINNATI (NBC, KYMA) - A man has been arrested after the Secret Service and Cincinnati police responded to Vice President JD Vance's Cincinnati home overnight.
Officers and agents responded to the home in East Walnut Hills and were on scene for several hours.
Video footage does show damage to some of the house's windows.
The U.S. Secret Service released a statement Monday saying a man was detained and arrested at the scene for causing property damage, "including breaking windows on the exterior of a personal residence associated with the with the vice president."
Vice President Vance was in Cincinnati last week, but he and his family left the city Sunday afternoon, and were not home at the time of the incident.
The Secret Service is working with Cincinnati police and the U.S. Attorney's Office to determine what charges will be filed in the case.
