Democratic lawmaker seeks to remove President Trump’s name from Kennedy Center

(CNN, KYMA) - Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio) has filed a lawsuit challenging the addition of President Donald Trump's name to the Kennedy Center.
Rep. Beatty, who is an ex-officio trustee of the John F. Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts, says a recent vote by the Center's Board of Trustees to add President Trump's name exceeded the authority given to the board by Congress.
New signage featuring the president's name was installed the day after the vote.
In a statement, Beatty said only Congress has the authority to rename the Kennedy Center.
Some experts say while the board's decision was likely unlawful, it's not clear if an individual would be allowed to challenge the move in court.
The White House was contacted for comment.
