Pentagon Inspector General’s report sheds light on Signal chat leak

(NBC, KYMA) - A report from the Pentagon Inspector General is shedding more light on a leaked Signal chat about strikes in Yemen.

Tuesday's report found Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth shared secret information in the March chat.

The report found that had the information been intercepted by a foreign adversary, it would have imperiled American troops, according to two people who have read the report.

The Inspector General also concluded Secretary Hegseth violated military regulations by using his personal phone for official business.

In addition, the classified inspector general report was shared within the Trump Administration, and with lawmakers on Capitol Hill Tuesday.

The Signal messages first came to light after a journalist was inadvertently added to the group chat.

A redacted version of the report is expected to be released publicly by Thursday.
