DOJ may present new indictment new indictment against James Comey
(CNN, KYMA) - The Justice Department (DOJ) could present a new indictment against former FBI Director James Comey to a grand jury as soon as this week.
The case against Comey was dismissed last week after a judge found that President Donald Trump's appointment of an interim U.S. attorney was invalid. Comey had previously pleaded not guilty to charges he lied to Congress five years ago.
The DOJ said they wanted to appeal the ruling, but they have yet to notify the court.
Over the weekend, FBI Director Kash Patel said the FBI and DOJ were exploring all options, and multiple responses could come soon after the Thanksgiving holiday.
Sources inside the DOJ say whatever comes next may happen quickly.
A case against New York Attorney General Letitia James was also dismissed last week. However, sources say prosecutors will likely present new indictments against her as well.
