Judge extends block on National Guard in Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. (CNN, KYMA) - National Guard troops still cannot patrol in Portland, Oregon.
A federal judge extended her order to block President Donald Trump from sending the troops to the city, at least until Friday. The judge's decision came after a three-day trial.
The State of Oregon and the City of Portland sued to stop the troop deployment. They argue the Trump Administration violated the law by federalizing members of the Oregon and California National Guard and sending them to Portland.
The Trump Administration says the troops are needed to protect government buildings and ICE agents carrying out immigration enforcement.
Protesters have gathered outside ICE's facility in the city, but the federal judge ruled the demonstrations were not out of control and federal officers were still able to do their jobs.
