President Trump on possibility of running for a third term
(CNN, KYMA) - President Donald Trump was asked about the possibility of running for a third term during his trip to Asia.
President Trump met Japan's Emperor Naruhito Monday in what the White House is calling a courtesy visit.
This political get-together gave rare access to the emperor's residence. Naruhito hosted Trump during a 2019 state visit.
After the two leaders emerged from their brief meeting, the president called Naruhito a "great man."
While on board Air Force One, a reporter asked Trump about the possibility of running for a third term.
"I haven't really thought about it. We have some very good people, as you know," the president answered. "We have one of them standing right here. We have JD [Vance] obviously. The vice president is great. I think Marco is great. I think, I'm not sure if anybody would run against those two. I think if they ever formed a group it would be unstoppable. I really do. I believe that...I would love to do it. You know, I have my best numbers ever. It's very terrible. I have my best numbers, if you read it."
This is in regards to Steve Bannon saying, in a recent interview, there would be plans for him to able to run and potentially winning a third term in 2028.
Trump was previously asked back in March of this year about the possibility of running for a third term, where he acknowledged, in a phone interview with NBC News, a scenario where Vice President J.D. Vance would run for office and then pass the role to Trump could be a possible method to skirt the 22nd Amendment.
