Appeals court blocks Trump Administration from deploying National Guard in Illinois
(NBC, KYMA) - National Guard troops are blocked from deploying on the streets of Chicago for now, thanks to a Saturday ruling from an Appeals panel.
The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals has blocked the Trump Administration from deploying the National Guard in Illinois.
It's the latest in several court volleys, responding to the administration's emergency motion to pause another court's order earlier in the week.
For now, members of the Guard are on standby. They remain federalized, but for now, cannot be deployed.
Last week, the Trump Administration federalized members of the National Guard to deploy troops near Chicago and also near Portland, Oregon.
Democratic governors in both those states are pushing back against the deployments.
