Federal judge blocks California National Guard deployment to Oregon

(NBC, KYMA) - A federal judge in Oregon has blocked the mobilization of National Guard troops to Portland.

The rare Sunday night ruling grants a temporary restraining order filed by the state of California, blocking the Trump administration from sending troops from any state's National Guard into the city.

Over the weekend, the White House announced plans to move National Guard troops from Oregon, California, and Texas into Portland.

The temporary block lasts until at least October 18.

In addition to the lawsuit from Democratic leaders in Portland and Oregon, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker blasted President Donald Trump's decision on Saturday to deploy National Guard troops in Chicago, an idea the president has floated for weeks.
