Former Vice President Kamala Harris attends CBCF’s Phoenix Awards in D.C.
WASHINGTON (NBC, KYMA) - Former Vice President Kamala Harris attended the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's (CBCF) Annual Phoenix Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C. Saturday night.
Harris was presented with the Chairs and Body Award, and she spoke on how officials are responding to President Donald Trump's actions and how important the CBCF's work is.
"Your work then is more important than ever, especially as your colleagues bend the knee and fail to uphold their constitutional duty...What I did not predict was the capitulation, the universities, law firms, media corporations, the titans of industry who have been so quick to kneel before a tyrant," the former vice president expressed.
Harris also mentioned the power people showed in getting "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" back on the air.
"When a president with a fragile ego couldn't take a joke and brought down the weight of the federal government to silence the voice of a citizen, folks spoke with their pocketbooks this week, and Jimmy Kimmel is now back on the air," Harris remarked.
She talked about what actions Democrats need to take in the future.
"Let's get over the savior complex, which suggests one individual can save us. Come on the Democrats, we have so many stars. You are leaders who speak truth, leaders who know that at a time such as this, it demands one thing for sure, we must fight fire with fire," Harris spoke.
