Trump Administration announces autism findings

WASHINGTON (NBC, KYMA) - The Trump Administration is making an announcement Monday about the cause of autism.

Over the weekend, President Donald Trump told reporters he believed acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol, was "a very big factor" in autism risk despite a recent study finding that taking acetaminophen during pregnancy was not tied to autism.

For context, the bulk of the scientific literature suggests no causal link between autism and exposure to acetaminophen in the womb.

The Wall Street Journal reported about the Trump Administration's coming announcement earlier this monthm saying the report, spearheaded by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., would also highlight a form of folate, known as leucovorin, as a potential autism treatment.

A spokesperson for Kenvue, which makes Tylenol, emphasized in a statement saying, "We believe independent, sound science clearly shows that taking acetaminophen does not cause autism."
