New Mexico to become the first state to offer free childcare
(CNN, KYMA) - Universal access to free childcare will be available November 1, according to Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-NM).
This makes New Mexico the first state in the U.S. to offer free childcare.
Officials say regulatory changes will be used to kickstart this program, but legislative approval is needed for full funding.
The policy change is expected to cost close to $600 million per year.
