Fired CDC director set to testify at Senate hearing

(NBC, KYMA) - Ousted CDC Director Susan Monarez is set to testify before a Senate oversight committee next week.

The Trump Administration abruptly fired Monarez last month after she refused to resign under pressure.

Monarez later wrote in a Wall Street Journal op-ed that she was dismissed after she refused direction by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to pre-approve recommendations for the CDC's vaccine advisory panel. Kennedy has denied the claim.

Monarez will appear before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee on September 17.

Dr. Debra Houry, who resigned as Chief Medical Officer after Monarez's firing, is also expected to testify, according to a committee spokesperson.
