U.S. military strikes alleged drug boat tied to Venezuelan drug cartel
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - President Donald Trump says the U.S. military struck an alleged drug boat tied to a Venezuelan drug cartel.
The president says 11 people were killed in the strike, which happened in international waters. He shared a video on social media.
President Trump also spoke about the strike during an unrelated event in the Oval Office Tuesday.
Trump said the alleged drug boat was tied to the cartel Tren de Aragua, which was designated a foreign terrorist organization earlier this year.
The use of military force against Latin America drug cartels represents a significant escalation by the Trump Administration.
The U.S. military has deployed thousands of military assets around the Caribbean and Latin American as part of a ramped-up effort to combat drug cartels.
