HHS Secretary RFK Jr. visits CDC days after shooting

(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. made a visit to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Monday.

Secretary Kennedy met with shaken staff at CDC headquarters in the wake of Friday's shooting outside the Atlanta-based facility.

Authorities say a gunman fired repeatedly at at least four buildings on the campus from a CVS store across from the main entrance.

A county police officer, 33-year-old David Rose, who encountered the gunman was shot and killed.

A law enforcement source said 30-year-old Patrick Joseph White took his own life inside the store a short time later.

White's family told investigators he was angry about the COVID-19 vaccine and believed it made him sick.

Some fired public health workers, many formerly with the CDC, are calling for Kennedy's resignation.

They claim his comments about vaccines and the CDC may have played a factor in the shooting.

The American Federation of Government Employees also released a statement claiming the shooting was not random.

The union says the tragedy adds to months of what it said is "mistreatment" and "vilification" of CDC staff.
