Protesters gather outside Ed Sullivan Theater to protest “Late Show” cancellation

NEW YORK (CNN, KYMA/KECY) - Protesters gathered Monday outside the Ed Sullivan Theater where "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" is taped, but these people angry at the show's cancellation aren't necessarily fans.

A group called Refuse Fascism led the demonstration. Its leaders suggest CBS may have canceled the show due to pressure from the Trump Administration.

This is because host Stephen Colbert regularly pokes fun of the president in his monologue.

Earlier this month, CBS parent company, Paramount, decided to settle a $16 million lawsuit filed by Trump over interviews conducted by "60 Minutes."

Trump could also stand in the way of Paramount's planned merger with Skydance Media.

CBS says the decision was purely financial, but Colbert show's ratings regularly beat "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" by a healthy margin.
