President Trump announces 30% tariffs on EU and Mexico
(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - President Donald Trump announced Saturday the U.S. will charge a 30% tariff on goods coming from the European Union (EU) and Mexico starting August 1.
President Trump revealed the new rates in letters sent to the presidents of the EU and Mexico, two of the largest U.S. trade partners.
Trump says higher tariffs will be imposed if either country retaliates by raising their tariffs.
The 27-member EU is America's largest trading partner, with imports exceeding $600 billion, while imports from Mexico topped $500 billion in 2024.
