Senate passes President Trump’s ‘big, beautiful bill’
WASHINGTON (CNN, KYMA/KECY) - The U.S. Senate narrowly passed President Donald Trump's giant tax and spending cuts package, which he calls his "one big, beautiful bill," Tuesday.
Senators voted 50 for and 50 against, with Vice President J.D. Vance breaking the tie.
Republican Senators Rand Paul of Kentucky, Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Susan Collins of Maine joined 47 Democrats who voted against the bill.
It followed days of grueling work persuading key Republican hold-outs.
Weeks of bitter GOP infighting forced President Trump to step in to convince Republicans to back his plan.
However, the GOP's hard work isn't yet done as they still have to get the bill through the narrowly divided House of Representatives, which is expected to return to Washington Wednesday to vote. They must pass the Senate's exact version of the bill.
Republicans want to get it to Trump's desk by Friday.
The multi-trillion-dollar bill would unlock tax cuts and funding boosts for national security.
