Federal appeals court to review birthright citizenship
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - The Justice Department is pressing a federal appeals court to reverse a judge's ruling that blocked President Donald Trump's effort to end birthright citizenship.
The hearing before a three-panel judge of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals is the first time one of the nation's intermediate courts has heard oral arguments over the constitutionality of the controversial policy.
The policy was blocked by several courts earlier this year before it could take effect.
The hearing in Seattle, Washington comes as the Supreme Court is considering whether they should modify lower courts injunctions so that Trump can begin partially enforcing the policy while legal challenges are being resolved.
