President Trump files appeal of mass firings

(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - President Donald Trump's fight to fire federal employees is back at the Supreme Court.

Administration officials filed an emergency appeal to reverse a lower court order.

The order blocked the administration's sweeping layoffs and major reorganization efforts at federal agencies. Critics say that those efforts go well beyond constitutional boundaries.

However, the U.S. Solicitor General said that controlling the federal agency workforce is a key piece of the president's authority.

More than a dozen unions, nonprofits, and local governments are behind the lawsuit.

It's seen as a case with enormous implications for the president's power to reshape the federal government.
