Elon Musk accuses President Trump of being in Epstein files during feud on social media

(KYMA, KECY/NBC) - President Donald Trump and Elon Musk had a public feud posted through social media Thursday afternoon, where Musk accused the president of being in the Epstein files.

President Trump was asked Thursday morning about Elon Musk's criticism of the "big, beautiful bill," which focused on tax cuts.

Musk, formally of the Department of Government Efficiency, stated the bill spends too much.

Trump said Musk was opposed to the bill because it would have eliminated electric vehicle tax credits, which Musk has business in.

"He had no problem with it. All of a sudden he had a problem, and he only developed the problem when he found out that we're going to have to cut the EV mandate," said President Trump in an interview.

Musk responded immediately on X, formally known as Twitter, by saying, "False, this bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in congress could even read it!"

Musk and President Trump continued to feud over social media, with Trump later posting, "Elon was wearing thin. I asked him to leave, I took away his EV mandate that forced everyone to buy electric cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went crazy!"

"Time to drop the really big bomb," Musk wrote on X, "Trump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public."

Musk offered no evidence to back up his post, and the White House nor President Trump responded to his claim.

Tesla stock lost 14% of its value since Thursday morning.
