Authorities crack down on cyber hacking tools
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - Authorities have cracked down on a cyber hacking tool that has been used in ransomware attacks, bank debts, and other digital crimes.
The Justice Department said that it has seized the computer systems hackers use to access the tool known as 'Lumma'. They've been used to create tens of millions of dollars in credit card losses.
According to Microsoft analysts, the main software developer for 'Lumma' is based in Russia.
Prosecutors have charged numerous Russian hackers with serious cyber attacks, but only a portion of the accused have seen a U.S. courtroom.
That's because Russian diplomats have fought to keep them out of U.S. custody.
