Airline CEO’s write letter to Congress
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - The leaders of nine major U.S. airlines want Congress to take action to fix the air traffic control system.
The airline CEOs wrote a letter to Congress saying, "serious upgrades need to happen now."
In addition, the letter notes that a shortage of air traffic controllers and insufficient operations are eroding safety.
The CEOs did praise the Department of Transportation's plan to upgrade air traffic control systems all across the country, but that plan still needs billions of dollars in congressional funding.
The airlines' plea to Congress comes after a series of high profile outages and deadlines caused by telecommunication problems and staffing shortages at air traffic control facilities.
