U.S. and China feuding amid trade war truce
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - Tariffs between the U.S. and China may have cooled, but there's still a big fight in tech.
Beijing is lashing out at Washington for warning companies not to use artificial intelligence (AI) chips made by Huawei.
The Commerce Department issued guidance last week warning that using Huawei's Ascend chips anywhere in the world violate U.S. export controls. However, an updated statement removes the phrasing "anywhere in the world."
Still, China says the U.S. is abusing export controls to suppress it.
Ascend chips are the most powerful AI processors Huawei makes. They are trying to challenge Nvidia's dominance in the space.
This is far from the first time the U.S. has railed against Huawei. The Biden administration banned the import of Huawei phones into the U.S. over security concerns.
