President Trump to meet with Presidents Putin and Zelenskyy next week
(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - U.S. President Donald Trump announced he will speak separately with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Monday about reaching a ceasefire.
In a post to Truth Social Saturday, President Trump said he plans to call Putin at 10:00 a.m. before he calls Zelenskyy to discuss the current war.
Trump typed his goal of the calls in an all caps in the post post saying, "Hopefully it will be a productive day, a ceasefire will take place."
The president has for months urged the two leaders to reach a deal and end the three-year-long-war.
Officials from Russia and Ukraine met in Istanbul on Friday, speaking directly for the first time since the war began.
The two sides reached an agreement for a prisoner swap, but did not appear to be significantly closer to setting terms for a permanent ceasefire.
