President Trump signs executive orders on immigration and policing
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - President Donald Trump signed three executive orders Monday aimed at undocumented immigrants.
The first one directs Attorney General Pam Bondi and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to publish a list of so-called sanctuary cities.
These are jurisdictions that refuse to hold migrants in jail beyond their release dates to give federal officials more time to detain the individuals. The order also empowers the Department of Justice and Homeland Security to pursue legal action against cities that refuse to comply.
The second executive order provides legal resources to police officers accused of wrongdoing. It also provides military equipment to local law enforcement.
The third executive order beefs up enforcement of rules that require professional truck drivers to speak proficient English. It directs the Department of Transportation to place any non-English-speaking drivers "out of service."
